Cuneiform is a really interesting form of writing. It was really nice to learn how to read and write it but it was really difficult and it took me two class periods to write the whole thing and in fact I did really big letters so for to fit me I had to make the last four words smaller. I think I did pretty good work but I didn't leave enough space sometimes between words so the person that had to 'decode' my sentence had a hard time to do it and he needed some help. It was really easy for me too decode someone's else sentence and I think that I could have solved my problems with my sentence if I wrote a small one as the one that I decoded-Sumerians invented the wheel and axle. While I was writing the sentence, tavern keepers in ancient Mesopotamia did not work all day, I thought it was a small sentence but when it was time to write it in Cuneiform alphabet, it was really long. Their letters reminded me of pins (as you can see at the pictures here) and they have nothing similar to the ones that we use now (Latin).
Cuneiform is really nice but it was not easier than writing English. It was as hard as writing our first words (in our mother tongue or another language) but once you get used to some letters then it is easy. The fact that Cuneiform letters are like pins it made it even more difficult since all the languages have almost the same letters. The time that we spend trying to write our sentence can prove that it was hard to write it and the fact that I wrote this sentence in less that 10 seconds it is a good prove!
It was really fun to learn how to write in Cuneiform and interesting. I would like to keep doing this kind of activities and have so much fun as we had in those two classes!
